The Oregon Law Commission appoints Keith Dubanevich as Commissioner

The Oregon Law Commission recently announced that Keith Dubanevich had been appointed as Commissioner.  Dubanevich is a trial and appellate lawyer with over 30 years of experience in more than a dozen different jurisdictions around the country.  He focuses his practice on complex dispute resolution and has extensive experience handling multi-state and international antitrust cases, consumer litigation and securities disputes. 

Stoll Berne builds bikes for children from low income families

Stoll Berne sponsored a Community Cycling Center bike build event for employees and family members to build bikes for children from low income families. Community Cycling Center believes that everyone deserves the joy, freedom, and health benefits that comes from a strong connection to bicycling regardless of income, education, or background.  After learning about Community Cycling Center and receiving bike building instruction, our staff and family members stepped up to build eight bikes.  The bikes built will be distributed at the Community Cycling Center’s annual Holiday Bike Drive.

Mueller speaks at MBA CLE on Piercing the Corporate Veil

On June 2, 2016 Keil Mueller, along with fellow Portland litigators John Parsons and Susan Marmaduke, spoke to members of the Multnomah Bar Association on Piercing the Corporate Veil and Other Limits on Limited Liability. The panel discussed concepts that affect when the boundaries between one person or entity and another act as a firewall for purposes of liability and personal jurisdiction, and when they do not.

Oregon District Court Preliminarily Approves $15.45 Million Settlement In Our FedEx Class Action

A settlement has been preliminarily approved in Oregon class action litigation where pick-up and delivery drivers alleged that FedEx Ground misclassified the drivers as independent contractors rather than as employees for purposes of Oregon’s wage laws.  FedEx Ground denies the allegations.

OTLA Appoints Steven Berman to Board

The Oregon Trial Lawyers Association  (OTLA) has appointed Steven Berman to its Board of Governors. OTLA is a state-wide membership organization of trial lawyers who represent plaintiffs in civil litigation. OTLA’s members appear in all courts in the State of Oregon to advocate for the rights of individuals and entities harmed by others.  OTLA is dedicated to preserving the constitutional right to trial by jury.

Stoll Berne Files Class Action Lawsuit On Behalf of Aequitas Investors

On April 4, 2016, Stoll Berne received permission from the U.S. District Court (Oregon) to file a class action lawsuit on behalf of Aequitas investors against two accounting firms and two law firms for violations of the Oregon Securities Law.  In a related enforcement action by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Oregon federal court entered an order prohibiting the filing of lawsuits against Aequitas, its officers and directors, and its professional firms.
