Stoll Berne attorney, Tim DeJong, performed on August 3, 2017 in the Multnomah Bar Association’s Battle of the Lawyer Bands. Tim’s band, SSIK (backwards KISS) donned full KISS look-a-like makeup and performed ”Rock and Roll All Nite,” “Cold Gin” and “Shock Me.” SSIK took home the title of Audience Favorite! On July 10, 2017, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) finalized its rule to restore consumers’ right to join together in challenging financial fraud and scams in court. The result of five years of careful study and consideration, the rule as proposed would restrict the financial industry’s use of forced arbitration – a tactic Wall Street banks and payday lenders use to block consumers from challenging illegal behavior in court.

U.S. District Judge Michael W. Mosman upheld a magistrate judge’s recommendation to deny in-part and grant in-part motions to dismiss filed by Sidley Austin LLP, Deloitte & Touche, Tonkon Torp, TD Ameritrade, EisnerAmper and Integrity Bank in a proposed class action case alleging that the defendants violated the Oregon Securities Law by participating and aiding in sales of securities totaling in excess of $650 million.

Stoll Berne attorney, Nadia Dahab, recently stepped in to the role of President of the Oregon Chapter of the Federal Bar Association on July 1, 2017. Her term will run through June 30, 2018.
