Berman and Gartner File Amicus Brief in Support of Marriage Equality

Stoll Berne lawyers Steven Berman and Nadine Gartner filed an amicus curiae brief on the behalf of Oregon United for Marriage in the consolidated cases of Geiger v. Kitzhaberand Rummell v. Kitzhaber.  Those cases challenge Oregon’s discriminatory marriage laws.

Oregon United for Marriage is the sponsor of a statewide initiative to legalize same-sex marriage in Oregon.  In their brief, Berman and Gartner urged the federal court hearing the consolidated cases to act quickly.  “A timely decision from the Court could render the Initiative unnecessary and spare all Oregonians the cost, expense and emotional strain of a difficult election fight.”

Stoll Berne has a long history of supporting civil rights and opposing discrimination in Oregon.  The firm is proud to have been asked by the campaign to assist with the effort to obtain marriage equality, as quickly as possible, for all Oregonians.  Berman and Gartner’s brief is available here.
